Sokoban Biomass Briquette Carbon Project – Ghana

The Sokoban Project is a pioneering waste-to-energy initiative transforming industrial wood residues into clean-burning biomass briquettes and improved cookstoves. Located in Kumasi’s Sokoban Wood Village, the project is designed to reduce deforestation, curb air pollution, and deliver measurable climate and health benefits—while unlocking new income streams for local artisans and entrepreneurs.

With strong community engagement and technical validation already underway, the project is positioned to generate high-integrity carbon credits and catalyze green jobs, circular economy innovation, and inclusive energy access.

  • Climate impact: reduced GHG emissions, deforestation mitigation, and clean energy transition
  • Community impact: livelihoods for youth and women, SME empowerment, and health co-benefits
  • Global alignment: Paris Agreement, SDG 7 (Clean Energy), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and circular economy principles

Currently in its early implementation phase, the Sokoban Project is seeking strategic partners and impact-driven investors to scale a replicable model that blends climate resilience with community prosperity.
